Martha Stewart attacked by climate change activists for using iceberg in cocktails

Television personality Martha Stewart has received criticism from her fans online over a social media post she shared in which she claims to have used an iceberg as part of her drink.

Stewart, 82, was on a cruise near the coast of Greenland when she shared several photos of her and her crewmates on her Instagram account. In one of her photos, she is seen holding a glass with some ice cubes in her drink, while in the following photo, a giant ice block is shown on a cart, which she claims was from an iceberg.

"End of the first zodiac cruise from @swanhelleniccruises into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of Greenland," Stewart wrote Monday on the social media site, sharing a photo of herself enjoying a drink with bits of iceberg. "We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight."

Multiple responses to Stewart's social media post criticized her, arguing that she was being insensitive to the environment.

"Martha the ice caps are melting don’t put them in your drink," read one response to her post.

Another user joked that Stewart might not have heard of global warming, while another user questioned "the safety of consuming iceberg cocktails."

Brian Kelly, another public figure on the same cruise, shared a social media post of him and Stewart together, in which he claimed he was glad to have taken the cruise trip. He also claimed that Greenland had been "impacted particularly hard by global warming, but its beauty still cannot be understated."

Stewart is far from the first celebrity to receive pushback for their lack of actions on climate change concerns; last year, director Steven Spielberg, who is also a climate activist, used a private jet that burned more than $116,000 worth of fuel over two months. The jet was used despite the director's claim in an interview that climate change was "a scientific reality."
