Nebraska outdoor volleyball match: TV schedule, live streams & more to watch game at Memorial Stadium

Aug 06, 2023Aug 06, 2023

Nebraska volleyball will make history Wednesday when nearly 90,000 fans pack Memorial Stadium to watch NCAA volleyball's first outdoor match.

The Huskers will take the stage against the Omaha Mavericks for Volleyball Day in Nebraska. Division II teams Nebraska-Kearny and Wayne State will play an exhibition match prior to the main event.

Few teams are as decorated and dedicated as Nebraska volleyball. The program holds five national championships, the third-most in collegiate history, with the latest coming in 2017.

In the 2022 season, the Huskers led the nation in average attendance with 8,190, and they currently hold the NCAA women's record of 303 consecutive regular-season sellouts.

After sweeping their way to a 3-0 start on the season, the Huskers are ranked fourth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

Nebraska's match against Omaha from Memorial Stadium will be on Big Ten Network and can be streamed on Fubo, which offers a free trial.

First serve from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln will be at 8 p.m. for the Omaha vs. Nebraska match.

Despite having a capacity listed at 85,000, Memorial Stadium has drawn over 90,000 fans during football games.

That many tickets were sold for Volleyball Day in Nebraska, and it was considered a sell-out within a few days of the ticket sales in April. That number did not include indoor club seat or the 4,000 field-level seats, which are reserved for students. They'll have plenty of time to gear up for the match, as Nebraska canceled classes for the day in anticipation of the event.

The match at Memorial Stadium is expected to bring in more than 90,000 fans and could break the record for largest women's sporting event.

The record crowd for a college volleyball match came on Dec. 18, 2021, when Nebraska played Wisconsin before 18,755 in Columbus, Ohio, in the NCAA tournament championship match.

However, the largest women's sporting event took place on April 22, 2022, when 91,648 people watched Barcelona host Wolfsburg in the Women's Champions League semifinal.

The U.S. record is the iconic 1999 Women's World Cup final between the USWNT and China at the Rose Bowl, which drew 90,185.
